Alan Barnes first LP as leader re-issued on CD.
After the inaugural release of ‘Straight Eight’ with Tommy Whittle and Alan Barnes on his new label, John Miles then asked Alan Barnes to bring a quartet into the studio and record his first album as leader.
Alan chose Dave Newton on piano, Paul Morgan bass and Mark Taylor drums.
Four of the tunes here are originals by Alan and the other five come from inspirational musicians Art Pepper, Dexter Gordon and Bobby Timmons along with two evocative ballads.
Alan has generously written some additional sleeve notes for this CD release and it is telling of his talent and John Miles’ recognition of it that the then twenty eight year old is now one of the most revered jazz musicians in the UK.
